First Murder Of '06

WWAy TV 3 COLUMBUS COUNTY -- Investigators in Columbus County are working the first murder of the year. It happened over the weekend on Peanut Worley Road, just south of Cerro Gordo. We're told someone got into the Mickey Hayes's mobile home and shot him in the face. The 59-year-old had lived alone. No one found Mr. Hayes's body until someone working on his pickup came to the home, saw the front door open and saw him face down on the floor. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Sheriff's Office at 642-6551 or Crimestoppers at 800-531-9845.
