Elementary School Has 18 Pregnancies In School Year WRAL CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- There's something in the water at Hawk Ridge Elementary School in Charlotte. During this school year, 18 female staff members have been pregnant. Six of them have already delivered, and two of them had babies within a day of each other. Heather Lundgren is one of seven kindergarten teachers or teacher assistants who are pregnant. She says a group of teachers gathered last June at a restaurant and talked about raising families. One by one, she says the women would say they were planning to have a baby next year. Even assistant principal Elena Diaz is expecting. She's due in early June. Diaz says when a female staffer goes into the principal's office, the first thing they say is, "I'm not pregnant."
